Finishing up free agency!

Tomorrow night is the last night for free agency. It'll also be Round 5 of the amateur draft.

If no one objects, round 5 will be the last round done by email -- after that the computer will pick. If you have an objection, please feel free to post here or email me.

G'wan, get it over with!

I'm just waiting for the excitement of the Rule V draft!

Apparently John Sadao developed a hatred for Seattle over his years here. I offered him $3M x 2 years and he told me he wanted more money. OK, I can understand that except he signed instead with Saskatoon for $2M x 1 year.

Solid financial move, John. Solid move.

Question: How many catchers can a franchise have in the two lowest minor leagues?

Answer: Not fewer than the number of licks it takes to get to the middle of a Tootsie Roll lollipop.

John Sadao? Are you sure it wasn't Jody Reed?

Oh, and speaking of the Rule V draft...

Could you please give some notice to teams to add everyone to the 40-man roster? Last year, I saw that there were several attractive players available, but by the time the draft came (later that day) they were added to their team's 40-man rosters.

So, I guess I'm proposing that you freeze rosters for a sim period before the Rule V draft so that we know who is actually available. I've already made my adjustments, so I'm ready to go, but I gather that most of the league isn't.

If we're going to do that (a sim before the Rule V draft), we need to make it really, really clear to people so that they don't inadvertently lose a player they want to keep. I just made my Rule V-related roster moves after the most recent free agency sim, so I can understand why people wait.

That's the point of my proposal. Otherwise, someone might forget and lose someone they definitely didn't want to lose (like how I would have lost Koepp, had I not added him to my 40-man).

It works both ways. It lets owners protect the guys they want/need, and it lets shoppers know exactly who's available.
